Portrait photographer — who you are, not who you play for the camera

A good portrait shows who someone really is — not the smile you put on the moment a camera points at you. My approach is documentary: I don’t work you into a pose, I wait for the moment you’re yourself. A glance, a posture, a calm that suddenly appears. That’s the image that stays with you.

Types of portraits

Personal portraits — for yourself, as a gift, or simply because you want an honest image of this chapter. No studio stiffness, just a session where you feel at ease.

Family portraits — not everyone lined up with a forced smile, but the real interplay: children running through the frame, an unexpected moment of tenderness. Documentary, in a place that suits you — at home, in the woods, by the sea.

How I work

We start without a camera. Ten minutes of coffee, getting acquainted, discussing what the portrait is for and what you specifically don’t want. That calm is half the work — those who feel watched tense up; those who feel at ease let themselves be seen.

Then I photograph at a relaxed pace. Not hundreds of frames to click through later, but a considered selection in which you recognise yourself. On location with natural light, or with a setup I bring along if you want a cleaner look.

What you get

• 5-10 edited photos at full resolution (web + print), via a private gallery
• Delivery within 5-7 working days
• Full usage licence — personal or commercial
• Optional: black-and-white variants, extra retouching on request

Frequently asked questions

I feel awkward in front of a camera — is that a problem? Almost everyone says that. It’s exactly why I work documentary-style and without poses: I won’t give you an impossible task (“look spontaneous”), I wait until it comes naturally. That’s precisely the craft.

Do I get the RAW files? No — but you do get a generous selection of edited photos at full resolution. (See also the FAQ.)

Where do you photograph? At a location of your choice — at home, outdoors, at work. No travel costs within 30 km of Hoogland.

What does a portrait session cost? Personal portrait from €150. Family from €195. Business portraits: see business portrait. The exact price depends on location, time and number of people.
